More importantly, its protein, vitamin and mineral profile was far superior to rice and wheat. One of the primary sources of dietary energy, millet also has a low-glycemic index which makes it the ideal rice substitute for diabetics and heart patients.

So how did we forget this wonder grain legacy? Influenced by the West and coupled with state policies that favoured these grains. Today, an increased demand for millet encourages higher production, which in turn makes millet farming more sustainable for our farmers.
